Dawn Bezuidenhout

Dawn Bezuidenhout

Farm Clinical Director

BVMS CertAVP (Sheep) MRCVS
RCVS Advanced Practitioner in Sheep Health and Production

After growing up on a beef and sheep farm in Cumbria, Dawn graduated from Glasgow vet school in 2009. After a couple of years in mixed practice, she moved to Clevedale to pursue her interest in farm animal practice. Dawn thoroughly enjoys becoming an integral part of our clients' businesses focussing on preventative health planning and maximising productivity on dairy, beef and sheep farms. Her particular interest in sheep led to her completing further studies and being awarded a certificate in advanced veterinary practice and becoming a RCVS recognised advanced practitioner in sheep health and production in 2018. Dawn has been part of AHDB's Challenge Sheep project since 2017 and also enjoys spending time teaching the next generation of vets on various sheep topics. Out of work Dawn is kept busy with her two children and small flock of Dutch Spotted sheep and can occasionally still be found sneaking in a game of hockey here and there.

Pippa Middlemas

Pippa Middlemas

Senior Veterinary Surgeon

BVMS CertAVP(Sheep) MRCVS
RCVS Advanced Practitioner in Sheep Health and Production

Pippa graduated from Glasgow University Veterinary School in 2006, and initially stayed in Scotland to work in mixed practice in Dumfries and Galloway. She returned ‘home’ to the North East in 2007 and worked in small animal and mixed practices before joining Clevedale in November 2010.

Pippa has a keen interest in farm animal practice, especially all things sheep, completing her Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice in Sheep Health and Production in 2018. Despite being an Advanced Practitioner in sheep health, Pippa enjoys the opportunity to work with dairy and beef enterprises. She is particularly interested in proactive herd and flock health planning, including strategies to reduce anthelmintic and antibiotic resistance. Pippa loves surgical cases, which is the main reason she still enjoys spending a small portion of the week in the small animal department. Given the opportunity those skills are transferred into farm work too. Outside of work Pippa is likely to be found on a hockey pitch – readers of the Whitby Gazette can follow her team Danby Hockey Club in the back pages. She enjoys exploring the countryside with her young family – hopefully one day the Cleveland Way will be completed!

Andrew Barber

Veterinary Surgeon

Andrew Barber qualified from Glasgow Vet School in 1990 and after 3 years in mixed practice in Nottinghamshire, moved to Clevedale in November 1993 to concentrate on Farm animals.

Over the last 31 years, as the practice has diversified into all creatures great and small, Andrew has continued to concentrate on the "great" with emphasis on cattle and sheep herd/flock health and fertility.

Vicky Coates

Vicky Coates

Veterinary Surgeon

BVetMed MRCVS

Vicky qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in 2013. Her first job was in mixed practice in Norfolk, where she worked for 4 years. Norfolk is where she met her husband, Freddy, via Young Farmers. Vicky moved to North Yorkshire in 2017 and has worked as a farm vet in Northallerton, before joining us at Clevedale in March 2024. Vicky especially enjoys working with cattle and fertility work, but like all farm vets, loves lambing time in the spring!

Outside of work Vicky enjoys taking her two Labradors on walks in the forest and also enjoys playing hockey for Northallerton Hockey Club.

Josh Henry

Josh Henry

Veterinary Surgeon

Josh grew up on a beef and sheep farm near Northallerton. After graduating from Nottingham in 2022 he returned to the area and joined the team at Clevedale, where works across the clinics as a mixed animal vet. His early life on the farm has instilled a hardworking and enthusiastic farm vet with a passion for all things large animal where he particularly enjoys fertility work, youngstock health and surgery. Outside of work he helps on the family farm as well as enjoying the outdoor life and somehow manages to fit in some shooting, fishing, hiking and cycling.
